Chemical Peel

Chemical Peel

How can a chemical peel improve my appearance?

Chemical facial peels aim to remove the dead skin cells from the skins surface to allow new healthy skin cells to grow back creating smoother looking skin. They can also be used to treat blemishes, scars and help reduce the signs of ageing.

The acids within the peel used work by bringing the pH of the skin to an optimum acidity level. This action chemically loosens the “glue” that binds the dead and damaged cells causing exfoliation and allow the promotion of new cell growth.

Obagi skin peels are not suitable for women who are pregnant or breast feeding, for patients suffering with rosacea, dermatitis, radiation therapy within the treatment area or active sunburn. In addition to this warts, herpes and coldsores would need to be managed prior to a skin peel application.

A thorough Skin assessment will be carried out before your peel. We ask that you come to clinic with no makeup on your face. It will be necessary for you to start on medical grade skincare for optimal results. Five days prior to having the peel done you should not have had laser hair removal, waxing, depilatory creams, electrolysis, microdermabrasion or have used a topical retinol cream.

During the peel, your skin will be cleansed and all sensitive areas (nose, corners of the mouth and corners of the eyes) will be coated with a protective barrier. In addition if you have tattooing or microblading these areas will also be protected. The peel solution will then be applied to the skin.

An Obagi skin peel treatment may only be performed after a face to face consultation. Initial appointments are consultations only. It will then be necessary to return for a separate treatment appointment.

Approximately 3-7 days post treatment you will start to see a tightening of the skin. It will be normal during the time to have some exfoliation of the skin, then you will begin to see the fresh new skin coming through.

You will be advised to wear sunscreen with a minimal 30 SPF for at least two weeks after treatment. We would also suggest using the Obagi hydrate to keep the skin moisturised during this recovery phase. Peeling can happen in the initial phase, we advise our patient to not pick at this. A full aftercare list will be given to each patient of products and treatments to avoid in the recovery phase.
